Hi Peter,
We already got an update for your issue. Your issue has already been fixed. Please check your email for more information.
Regards,
Lili
I created a sample and followed your Step By step to reproduce your issue. However, everything works fine in here. Here is my attached sample. Could you modify my sample so It can reproduce your issue?
I also suggest you to update the WebGrid and WebUIFramework to the latest version and see ifthe problem is solved or not.
Lili Khiung
Hi,
I had to tweak a little to get working.
i am using visual studio 2008. not Vs2010 which i think your sample was built in?
Anyway, I added/changed the property
and can regenerate the error.
I have also added some javascript to show page width.
the exact widths where this occurs may be different for you.
For this example on my system there is a 4 pixel range where the grid vanishes.
if the size is changed between load and postback all is ok.
I had attached updated files and document with screenshots.
the exact width on your system may be different.
I believe i an using the latest files i have access to.
I do not have webUIFramework.
thanks
Thank you for your sample. We are able to replicate the issue now. We will investigate this issue further with our developers. We will inform you about the update.

Hi Lili,
Is there any information on when we can expect a fix for this. This is increasingly becoming an issue with our clients and is holding up the roll out or out upgrade to the rest of our servers.
I need to feedback some timescales to my director.
also is there anything i can do in the meantime to work around this problem and limit the impact.
obviously turning off autofitcolumns will do this but this but we need this feature.
Peter
I am terribly sorry that for now there is no other work around. Currently, your issue has been reported to the developer team to be investigated further. I have told about your situation to the developers. You will be notified when a fix is available, unfortunately I can't offer any information on a timeframe on this fix.
I will let you know as soon as I get the update from the team.
Is there any further information on when or if this has been looked at.
As far as I can see it is a month since this we raised this issue an we have no idea if it can even be fixed.
We are now at a point where I am being asked to investigate other products that are more stable.
Deeply apologize for the inconvenience. But there's still no update for your issue because it's still being investigate by our developer. We will contact our developer again and will inform you as soon as we got any updates.
two months on has the problem been investigated?
Any feedback?
any Fix?
We are currently testing your issue using the latest fix. Here I attach the video to show the issue is not replicated anymore following the step by step of both scenario that you wrote on your very first post using your provided sample. Please check if I already test it the way you find the issue. If not, could you make a video to show how you reproduce the issue so I could test it again on my end?
Thank you.
thanks for the response.
I will see if we can generate a video. need to find some software 1st.
I to not think the video you have recorded would necessarily generate the error.
any resizing before a postback will not cause the problem. also it is only for specific window widths.
very unpredictable.
i have to perform the following steps to reproduce
1) resize window width by a few pixels
2) refresh page. e.g. goto address bar and press enter to trigger load event
3) postback event (click button)
4) go to 1) and repeat until grid vanishes.
The grid vanishes at a number of window widths in out software.
I will pull down the latest software as a demo and try to reproduce again.
I have difficulties to replicate your issue using the above steps. It would be better to show through the video, so that I could follow the exact step. That would really help.
I downloaded a trial of the latest version also and replicated the issue with these dlls
Attached is a video
hopefully this should be enough for you to reproduce. You managed to reproduce before and nothing has changed.
In this particular grid it only seems to occur in 1 window width 799px
In live grids is is occuring on multiple window sizes.
Thank you for the video. I was able to reproduce the issue before, using the scenario you provided as I show you through the video. When I test it again, the issue seems to be fixed. That is why I confirmed it to you first. But apparently, the issue is still exist in other scenario, which is when the width of the window is 799px (We are able to replicate this one). We will report about this scenario to the developer again to be fixed as well. Deeply apologize for the inconvenience, we will inform you again when this one is fixed.
Just so you and the developers are aware.
I still get the same problem occurring at 768px and 772px provided in the original errors document I posted on 22 March so I do not think any part of the problem was solved by the latest version of the webgrid.
This is not surprising as a do not think anybody on the development team has tried to reproduce in a development environment or identify what is causing the problem. hoping that the latest version mysteriously fixes the problem is just wishful thinking.
On this test grid the problem appears minor but is a larger problem on the real world grids.
In this grid i have "only" found 3 points but there may well be lots more. i'm not going to resize by 1 pixel and retest for each possible scenario.
As i have said before this is linked to widths of columns. changing a column width pushes the problem elsewhere.
If the dev team can understand the problem and provide feedback on how i can side step the issue until a fix is available then great. Of course a fix is even better. Here’s hoping.
I currently have little confidence that anybody beyond 1st line support has any interest in addressing this issue. I suspect the only feedback i'll recieve is that it is with a developer (being ignored).
<rant over>
Deeply apologize for the inconvenience. We are testing your issue on our end. Unfortunately, your issue is a hard one to replicate because it appears to be random. We were able to replicate your issue, and after test it again by using your first scenario, we find the issue did not occur again. We communicate it again to you, and we really appreciate that you helped us to give another information, which is by defining an exact width where the problem occurs.
Your issue has been forwarded to our development teams and they will try their best to fix this issue. Once again, thank you very much for your help. Regards, Lili
Once again, thank you very much for your help.
Lili,
We are also experiencing this issue. What was the final resolution? Is there a version of WebGrid available that does not have this issue?
Thanks.
Good News
The fix you emailed me today webgrid version *.431
Worked in the test grid we were using to replicate the problem.
Deployed fixed grid to a test copy of our live application.
We are not longer having the grid vanish on postback for the same screen widths as the live site.
We will need to perform further tests to make sure the problem has not "moved" but all is looking good at the moment.
we were very very close to pushing the "purchase" button on telerik radgrid component.
Very happy the problem is fixed at last. but less happy about the length of time to generate this as we have spent a significant amount of resource looking at another solution.
Very glad to hear that your issue is solved on your end. Thank you for informing us.
