In a Hierarchical grid (self referencing), if I expand a row, then do a manual grouping in the grid, I get an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error.
What is causing this error?
I have no problem doing this in a flat grid or a grid with a parent/child relationship.
Darlene
Hi Darlene,
I can't replicate your issue on my side. Could you please send my your simple sample?
Thank you and have a nice day.
Best regards,
Niven Prasetya
Hello Niven,
I forgot to mention that my project is using WebGrid version 6.0.7200.211. Did you try it with that version?
I have tried your scenario using the same WebGrid version 6.0.7200.211, but your issue isn't replicated on my side.
I'm using the SelfReferencingwithHierarchicalGrid.aspx sample from the WebGrid Samples.
Please try to update to the latest build.
If the issue still exist, please send me the sample of your project to be investigated more further,
Niven,
I didn't find a SelfReferencingwithHierarchicalGrid.aspx in the samples, but I did find SelfReferencingAndHierarchy.aspx. It had a grid with grouping turned on. I executed that sample and got an error. Here is the scenario that I did:
1. expand the row with Andrew Fuller
2. expand the row (under Andrew Fuller) with Steven Buchanan
3. group by the LastName column
4. got the JavaScript error: childNodes is null or not an object
So not exactly the same error I see with my project, but similar. Can you tell me what needs to change in the sample to fix that error.
Thanks,
Sorry for the mistyping of the sample's name.
I have attach a screenshot of mine after following the same step as your issue was being replicated. But still I can't replicate your issue.
May I know the version of your framework?
I'm using Framework build 3.0.5000.604.
Our framework version is 3.0.5000.1, so it is different than the one you are using.
Did you check your framework version from the Windows/assembly folder? If yes, please right click and click the property on ISNet, go to Version tab, click on the Product Version under Item Name. You will get your actual framework version.
I have attach the latest build of framework version, 756. Please refer to http://www.intersoftpt.com/Build/ApplyHotfix on how to patch the latest update manually.
Hope this will work well on your side.
Hi Niven,
Using your directions, I see product version 3.0.5000.606 which appears to be a later version than the one you used. Do you still think that the framework version 756 build should fix this problem?
Yes I'm aware of that. Just to ensure you to have the latest HotFix to get a better result.
May I know what is your server environment?
If the problem still exist could you please allow me to remote your computer?
I'm available from monday - friday, 08.00 - 17.00 GMT+7.
Please give a time that you find suitable.
Best regards,Niven Prasetya
I executed your sample from Visual Studio 2008
(Version 9.0.30729.1 SP) on my laptop. It is running Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP 3.
Sorry I cannot allow you to remote into my computer.
Version 9.0.30729.1 SP
Microsoft .NET Framework Version 3.5 SP1
on my laptop. It is running Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP 3.
After a further investigation I am able to replicate your issue. I have informed this issue to the Developement Team. I will give you any news as soon there is available workaround from the Development Team.
Thank you very much.
Is there any news on this issue? Will there be a workaround or a hotfix for it in Webgrid 6.0.7200.211? Also does grouping work without error for a self-referencing grid in the latest version of Webgrid?
I have checked the issue, and it seems that the issue still occured. I will ask the developer to review the issue again. I will let you know as soon as possible if there is any news regarding the feedback.
I deeply apologize for the inconvenience.
Thank you for the patience and have a nice day.
Regards,
Niven
Does the issue occur in the latest version of WebGrid or just Web Grid 6.0.7200.211?
Yes, it is still occured in the latest version of WebGrid. I still have not heard any news from the developer.
I will remind the developer team again regarding this issue.
Thank you and i deeply apologize for the inconvenience.
Niven.
Please try the new nightly build of WebGrid 7 build 406. Let me know if the issue still occured.
Please refer to http://www.intersoftpt.com/Build/ApplyHotfix to patch the hotfix manually.
Hope this helps.
Regards,Niven.
Unfortunately, we are using WebGrid 6, so I cannot try your WebGrid 7 hotfix. Will you be able to provide a hotfix WebGrid 6 to address this issue?
I apologize for the my mistake.
Here is the WebGrid 6 new hotfix.
Once again, I'm sorry for the mistake.
