Hi
I have seen the video "Licensing ClientUI Silverlight Application for Deployment". Now I have following question about Deployment.
- In the video, every step is described, except to build the project before copying the folder to Deployment Server. I think this is important
- Also in the video, the whole Silverlight Folder (SilverlightDeploymentSample.Web) is coping to the wwwroot folder on Deployment Server. Would it be enough to copy following subfolders and files: /Bin, /Client, SilverlightDeplomentSampleTestPage.html and Web.config. Correct?
- My Testserver is a Windows Server 2008 R2 (IIS 7.5). Which service roles do I need for the Business Application? Default only? Do I need additional service roles, e.g. ASP.Net (please have a look on "WebserverServiceRoles.png")?
- Additional important is to include the RIA Services assemblies on the Deployment Server. I found a Guide to Deploying RIA Services Solutions. I have downloaded the newest version of WCF RIA Services V1.0 SP2 RC and run the following command (command prompt with administrations rights) on Deployment Server: msiexec /i RIAServices.msi SERVER=true
- How can I use the integrated AuthenticationService (for register and login/logout Users) on Deployment Server? How must I deploy and configure the ASPNETDB.mdf? Can I attach the ASPNETDB to the local SQL Server Instance?
- Is there something else to note?
Thanks a lot for your answer!
Regards Michael
Thank you for the valuable feedback regarding the deployment tutorial video. Yes, you are correct that it is suggested to build the project before copying the folder to deployment server.
For the simplicity purpose, the whole Silverlight folder is being copied to the deployment server. Copy the “/Bin”, ‘Client”, SilverlightDevelopmentSampleTestPage will show the same result.
I will ask the dev team for more detail information regarding this question.
Thank you for the feedback regarding the RIA services assemblies on the deployment server.
I’ll discuss this with the team to provide you with detail information about how to use the integrated authentication service on deployment server.
Thanks for the feedback. I am very interested on feedback from the dev team.
In the meantime, I have published the Business Application (incl. ASPNETDB) with integrated VS2010 Web Deploy method (please have a look on attached file, you can see the settings). This works very well. With the SQL Server Management Studio I have access to ASPNETDB on the Deployment Server. The application runs without problems as long as no connection is established to ASPNETDB (eg registration or login).
But where can I change the connection string for ASPNETDB? In any case not in Web.config! The application on the deployment server tries to access to the App_Data directory. But this directory does not exist...

no feedback from the developers?
Hi Yudi
Where can I find the connection string from the ASPNETDB in ClientUI MVVM Data Application?
Still no feedback from the developers?
I will ask the team and give you news as soon as possible.
still no feedback?
Sorry for the inconvenience. I will try to ensure that an answer can be delivered on this day.
still no feedback...!
Terribly sorry for the delay in sending this.
You can leave the service roles as default, however please ensure that all MIME types needed to support Silverlight are implemented. In most cases, IIS user can add MIME types by running IIS Manager, clicking MIME Types, then clicking add, and then adding the following MIME types:
Please let me know whether this helps or not.
Thanks for reply.
The following point is very importent for me:
How can I use the integrated AuthenticationService (for register and login/logout Users) on Deployment Server? How must I deploy and configure the ASPNETDB.mdf? Can I attach the ASPNETDB to the local SQL Server Instance? Where can I find the connectionstring? See also prior posts.
