Webgrid throws a scripting error, while collapsing the data after groupby.
Here are the steps, I had followed.
1. Created a web grid.
2. Bind a large data with that grid say 400 records
3. Now I perform groupby operation on the grid, using the internal facility provided by the grid.
4. After groupby, my data comes in expanded mode, with expander attached with each grouped item.
5. Now I try to collapse the large item records and I found an internal scripting warning error. [Screen grab attached]
Along with this, the performance is also low.

I think that is not an error but it is a slow response from script when loaded data. It seems in one group, you loaded many data. Sometimes, this can be happened. I suggest you to use virtual Load Grouping in your scenario. By using that feature, the performance should be great.
