MultipleColumns WebCombo does not work in IE8, not even in IE7 compatability mode. The drop down doe snot appear at all but works fine in firefox at least
I am using the very latest version fo WebCombo from WebUI Studio 2010.
This is easily validated by opening the basic intersoft provided sample "MultipleCombos.aspx" .
This will not work in IE8.
Karl
tried in IEtester which can simulate different versions of IE, seemed to work in IE7 but confirmed that it does not work in IE8. can anyone get this to work at all in IE8?
Hi Karl,
Did you mean by MultipleColumns.aspx?
I'm able to replicate your issue.
I will let you know when if there's any news from the Development Team.
Thank you and have a nice day.
Best regards,
Niven Prasetya
yes, sorry I did mean multipleColumns.aspx
Hello,
I have received a news regarding this issue.
This issue required an XHTML DOCTYPE, since IE 7 and 8 based on HTML DOCTYPE it will give you an error.
Please add or change the DOCTYPE to XHTML. I have retest this on my side and everything went normal again.
Regards,Niven
Thanks for investigating that. The sample applications include a master page with XHTML doctype, i changed the multiplecolumns.aspx page to use that one and hence it's doctype but that one does not work in IE8 either.
Can you please tell me what exact doctype I need to use to get that sample to work in Internet Explorer 8, thankyou.
I believe I'm using the same steps as you did. May I know what WebCombo build are you using now?
I'm using WebCombo 4 build 220 and Framework 3 build 756. Have you install our latest SP1?
If you dont mind, I recommend you to use our latest installer.
Regards,Niven.
EDIT: attached a screenshot.
this still does not work?
is it possible to get a newer version than
build 220, there have been no updated for webcombo released?
Hello Karl,
Using XHTMl mode should fix the issue because the current sample is running in HTML mode. So, naturally it will use quirks mode in document mode browser. If you force to use IE8 in document mode, it will mess up.In case, if you still face the same issue, I suggest you to use our latest build. WebCombo 4 build 233 and update WebUIFramework as well build 772 for the best result. You can obtain the latest by using UpdateManaager and apply them in your project bin folder.
Regards.Handy
thanks for your prompt response handy.
it's quite easy to change the sample to XHTML doctype with
MasterPageFile="DefaultMasterXHTML.master"
even with the latest build it still does not work.
Does it occur in IE8 or IE9? Because if it is in IE8, it works well. I only can replicate the issue in IE9.
Regards,Handy
I have on my pc IE 8.0.7600.16385
it dees not work with this version
I installed latest version of ietester (v0.4.11)
however it does work with all the IE engines built into ie tester except IE9, that is , IE5-10
Interestingly, in IEtester when it does not work in IE9 it shows a "6" in the combo box, from previous experience this is usually due to browser security and activex being disbaled but this is not the case here.
What is your PC environment? We need to know more details in order to replicate the issue.
windows 7, 64bit
Internet explorer secuirty settings "default" "Medium" also "low" does not work either.
I would say ActiveX is the culprit, i'd say the code should be changed to only use activex if browser is an old internet explorer version , say 5 or maybe 6 where there is no option but not in ie 7,8,9 where it is not necessary .
webcombo works fine in Chrome or firefox without activex. I think maybe webcombo is trying to use activex for all versions of IE, i think this is is a mistake as often people change their security settings and disable activex. this has been a problem for me with clients in the past. This time activex is not disabled but still it does not work.
I also used Windows 7 64 bit. But Ie 8.0.7601.17514. It works fine in here. How do I get your version?
I don't know how to get different buld releases of IE8.
You have confirmed that it does not work in IE9 on your system.
Could you please escalate the bug to the developers since you have confirmed webcombo with multiple coloumns does not work in IE9.
This is microsofts current release of IE and this should be a high priority fix i beleive.
thanks,
Default option of Popup does not.

I am still not able to replicate the issue in my ie8. Can you let me know how do I get your ie8 version. Also, in WebCombo 4, the default ResultBox type is popup. Only IE browser supports popup type. However, for the next, we suggest to use normal because popup type is no longer be used anymore.
I have the version installed form windows update? I don't know how to receive different versions.
I'm goign to use ResultBoxWindowType="Normal"
Ok. So, I think we can assume the issue is solved, then? Thank you for your patience and help.
It's not resolved. IT does not work in IE9, you confirmed this yourself.
changing ResultBoxWindowType to Normal does get it to render teh drop down list but in IE9 you cannot select any option at all in this mode.
This is easily verified by running the sample page in IE9, it will NOT work.
