We have to move our old production site to a new server, which is using WebGrid.NET 6.0.7200. We cannot use any newer version of the control. We have more than sufficient licenses for it. I need to provide the server installation instructions for our IT department in a ticket, so I have to be very specific. I did the installation myself on a development server and it seems to run fine, but I'm not sure if every 100th time a license warning will pop up or not. I think I've seen that once.
How can I ensure that the component is properly licensed (configured)?
Do I have to install anything on our production servers or is it sufficient to provide a valid runtime license key in the web.config file? If I need to install anything, what is the minimal installation required? Could I just copy the License Manager exe or something?
All knowledge base articles I found on your site apply only for the WebGrid 7 component or do not answer my specific questions.
Following resources should help you to create the production server installation instruction.
In your production server, please do not install any of Intersoft products. This is one of common mistake on deployment phase.
In development server, please ensure that you have used License Manager application to register Intersoft's products. If the registration success, your products should now licensed and the message of 30-days trial (countdown) should no longer appear.
In order to ensure that the component is properly licensed on deployment server, please check that the controls should render properly on client's browser.
Hope this help.
We are not using SmartWebResources and the web.config file is already correctly configured.
I found out that our production site is using WebGrid 8 (8.0.7200.250), not WG6. It looks like we upgraded at some time. My development PC currently has no WG8 license installed (only WG6) and that's where I saw the license warning when testing the application. Reason is that I replaced my development PC and simply didn't install the license for WG8 (I can't find it right now, but I'm sure we have enough around if required), but actually I don't care, because I'm not developing anything on that application anymore. The web.config is configured against WebGrid 8 with a valid runtime license.
Does this mean that I can simply copy the application from the old server to the new server with the same runtime license key, don't install anything on the server and it should work?
When the project is ready to be deployed, yes, you can simply copy the application from the old server to the new one with the same runtime license key. Please don't forget: not to install anything on the production server. It should work.
Please feel free to let us know if you still have difficulties to deploy your application to the new production server.
