Web Combo seems to have trouble with Microsoft ASP.Net 2.0 AJAX Extensions 1.0, found here.
If the extensions are installed I receive these errors (varies between pages):
Error: Unable to get value of the property 'documentElement': object is null or undefined (In WebCombo.js. It highlights this line: "v50372 =v2998.XmlDt.documentElement; ")
Error: Unable to get value of the property 'parentElement': object is null or undefined (Also in WebCombo.js. This time it highlights: "var v1ce37 =this.FrameObj.parentElement;")
Any ideas? Is this a documented issue that I have been unable to find? You should be able to reproduce easily.
Hi tjp1,
I've installed Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions to my environment. Unfortunately, I couldn't replicate your issue in our local end. I also attach a sample here. Could you mind to run the sample in your local end or can you provide a simple sample that can replicate this issue in our local end?
Look forward to hear any feedback from you so I can help you further.
Regards,Bernard
Hi Bernard,
Thanks for your reply. I've attached a sample project which reproduces the error. There are 2 errors. First error occurs on page load. Second error occurs when you leave the page.
Our findings indicate that the error only occurs on pages where the webcombo is inside a datagrid. ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions (link above) needs to be installed in order to reproduce the error. You need to restart IIS after installing the AJAX Extensions.
Looking forward to your reply.
Sincerely,
tjp
Hi tjp,
I can replicate your issue here. But it's really hard to trace what causes this problem in our control. Our control also has AJAX mechanism that shouldn't be interrupted with other AJAX. Actually, I didn't see any javascript that disrupt our Javascript. If possible, could you explain for what purpose this AJAX Extensions used? Or maybe you can explain us scenario that you want to achieve by using this AJAX Extensions?
Thanks for the response. We don't use the AJAX Extensions. We install our application on our clients' servers. These clients are Fortune 500 companies and some of the largest law firms in the world. We can't dictate what software they have on their servers.
We've had multiple clients who have AJAX Extensions 1.0 installed on their servers. It's installed because they have other applications on their server which use the AJAX Extensions. Two of those clients were willing to install our application on a standalone server. But others are not willing to spend tens of thousands of dollars buying and maintaining a standalone server for our application.
The WebCombo error causes our custom javascript controls to break, making the application unusable. We already spent a ton of man hours determining the exact cause of the problem (AJAX Extensions 1.0, only on pages where WebCombo is embedded in a datagrid). We also scoured the internet and found that we are not the only ones to have experienced this issue. See this post on your forum dated April 2010. Ethan experienced the same problem but there was no resolution since the cause of the error was never found. It has currently has over 600 views.
Please let me know if you need any other information.
Thanks,
Could you let me know your order reference number? We will investigate this matter further. And I'll let you know if there's workaround or fix regarding this matter.
Hope this helps.
Thanks again.
Should I just post that information in this thread? Won't others be able to see it? My order number for webcombo .net version 1.1 is 1949833238. I have my developer and runtime license keys for v4.0, but haven't found the order number yet.

I have forward your order reference number to our sales representative. We will discuss this problematic behavior further and we will let you know any news via private email. Hope this helps.
