I have a problem with the webgrid when i insert a new record with the dropdown box. I have in the grid a dropdown list defined for a column. The value is 1,2,3,4,etc.. the description is apple, orange, tomato, spinach, etc... After I insert a new record the decription and value are both "apple". If I update an existing record the value is correct with "1". Is this a bug with inserting a new record?
Hi Jocelyn,
Thank you for your information. Yes, it will only retain the description and not the value of the list. It is, actually, a default behaviour of the WebGrid regarding to the private issue. Additionally, you can read for more information at http://www.intersoftpt.com/Community/WebGrid/Copy-and-Paste-in-a-WebGrid-with-a-DropDownList-EditType/
I hope it helps and please, do not hesitate to ask if you have any other questions. Thank you.
Best Regards,
Andi Santoso
First of all, if I may know, did you do it programmatically or via designer to insert a new record on the WebGrid? How and what event do you use to check the value and the description of that specific column?
If you do it programmatically, I am afraid that you might have something incorrect on you code while you try to retrieve the description and the value of its. The reason is, I have tried your case via designer and it works pretty well. I used “OnAfterAdd” client side to check the value and the description after I inserted a new record in the WebGrid.
And if you do it programmatically, perhaps, you can attached your running sample which can replicate your issue for me to investigate it. Thank you.
Andi Santoso.
I am doing a copy row in the web grid, and pasting row it into the add row at the top of the grid. It does not retain the value of the dropdown list only the description.
