I am sorry. But maybe you missunderstood about my previous reply. The same issue has been occured with IIS installed. The error would be occured because it could not acces into your CommonLibrary (virtual directory with IIS). This has been fixed.

If you does not install IIS, of course you would get the error because all our component designer need to be connected into CommonLibrary ( has been set as virtual directory). That's why you still need to install IIS.

But how it works under VS 2008 without an explicite installed IIS ?

Actually it has been fixed. Please ensure your IIS installation. Our CommonLibrary needs to be set as virtual directory.

Yes, that is FileSystem mode. It is known issue because it could not access into your CommonLibrary (virtual directory in IIS).

When you running the site, it should be showing something like 'http://localhost:21xxx' (21xxx is a port). If you have something like those port, then it is FileSystem.

It should be no issue in localhost. Are you sure it is localhost? The project also could be FileSystem when running directly from pc. If it was FileSystem, then it is known issue since ComponentDesigner in FileSystem could not access directly into CommonLibrary.

While trying to preview a layout of WebGrid.Net 7.0 in the Component Designer 2.0 i got the error: Unknown error (0x80005000)
