Ok, I am sorry that I was missunderstanding your problem statement.

If you are using WebGrid 6 in VS2008, please ensure that it is using the correct assemblies and the latest hotfixes (WebGrid and Framework).

It would be more helpful if you can share me your WebGrid structures and settings.
Please also let me know if the issue also occurred in our WebGrid sample or not.

I think you misread my problem statement. I said that I converted a VS2003 project and Webgrid to VS2008 and WebGrid Enterprise VS2008 (i.e. WebGrid 6.0). The WebGrid 6.0 is crashing not the WebGrid 3.5 that works just fine.

Yes, although you can convert a project in VS2003 into VS2008, you will get the error because it was our old product which you're currently using.

Old products which run in VS2003 only work under .Net Framework 1.1 environment and will not work under .Net Framework 2.0 or higher environment.
To run in higher .Net framework environment, I suggest you to upgrade the product.

When I converted a working webgrid page with a self-referencing hierarchal datasource from VS2003 to VS2008 the WebGrid Enterprise VS2008 version fails with an Object reference not set to an instance of an object error.
