Wow, it's hard to believe the grid doesn't do this. Yes, please, submit it as a feature request. This is a critical feature for our company, so if you can please add it sooner than later.

Forgive me, but unfortunately, currently we do not have that kind of property. The only way to do so is by adding IsAutoWidht="True" in every each cell that we are desired to. On the other hand, perhaps, you can ask for feature request in this particular feature.

Auto Width is only for one column. Our situation requires all columns behave that way. Like already said, we need the grid to come up as wide as its content.

Some of our grids will have wrapping and those we can configure separately, however, the majority need to come up like we need.

Hi Yousif,

Attached is a sample of AutoWidthColumn. When we set the column as an AutoWidthColumn, that specific column's width will give us a wide width according to its data. How to do so is, go to WebGrid Designer, click on Advance then choose RootTable. After that, you can choose your specific column that we like to set as an AutoWidthColumn. In there, you can set the width for the checkbox as well.

We need to accomplish something very simple, but I'm having a terrible time achieving our goal with WebGrid. At the moment I just cannot get the grid to do this simple thing.

Show my data in it's entirety in each column and as wide as it needs to be and no line wrapping in the rows or the header columns. Basically each column should be as wide as necessary to display the longest line of text for the records loaded and the grid to stretch as wide as it needs to show the data.

We also need to be able to set the wrap and width, of a specific column if needed with the others behaving as mentioned.

I'd appreciate it if you can provide a sample that does this since I couldn't find any in the live samples that do this.

Also, no matter what we do, using Best Fit always impacts other column sizes. Plus, we want our custom check box column, which is an ITemplate, to be a static width and no matter what we set it to, it comes up different widths on different grids.

So whatever sample you provide that does this, we can then use as a template to configure our grid. Thank you.

See the attached examples of what I'm talking about. Basically the grid should size itself to the content and it doesn't. You can't see the full Name or the End Date. Note the check box column size is different in the two snapshots.
