That's good to hear. It seems that the issue was probably because of the mismatched Metro assembly version, but then again you did check it before.

Ok, have an update with this. On adding a WebTab to the same solution, when trying to view that Designer I received a different error. A dialog appeared stating that the control was missing from Visual Studio 2012 (even though I'm using 2015), but found this issue listed in the Community, but the resolution did not work.

However, by pure luck I decided to check for updates and indeed there were dated 31/03/2016. On installing this the issue with the webtab designer was then fixable by updating the Metro dll in the GAC. I then received this same error when viewing the WebGrid designer. Again, by pure chance I decided to create a new project, dragged the Grid control onto a page and voila, the designer worked. On going back to the original project, again, it now worked.

Can't explain what the issue was or how it was fixed, but seems to be intermittent as suddenly the WebTab designer failed again, so went to another project and dragged the control onto a page and again fixed.

Yes, can confirm the Metro dll is in the GAC using GACUtil.

ISNet.WebUI.WebGrid.Editor.Metro isn't shown in the assembly folder but you could check it using gacutil command in terminal, it should be shown from there.

To confirm, I am using the full VS 2015 Professional edition with Update 1. And I have compared the assemblies in the GAC and they match version numbers, however only the ISNet.WebUI.WebGrid.Editor.dll is present in the GAC from the WebGrid assemblies, does the ISNet.WebUI.WebGrid.Editor.Metro.dll need to be in there also?

Thank you for the detailed information, Jonathan. I really appreciate it. Usually the inaccessible WebGrid Designer happens on certain occassions, like when the WebGrid's GAC is not the same as in your project. Although, I don't think this is the case for you since you just freshly installed the WebUI Studio, but it might worth to be checked.

We'll keep looking on what really causes this issue and keep you updated. Also what VS Edition are you using? We've been encountering few issues when using Community Edition.

Thanks for the response. There are no error messages and subject to whether I have opened another designer, e.g. the WebCombo, I may see the brief Intersoft.ClientUI - Evaluation Version, splash screen appear, but on disappearing, the designer is not visible. I have tried alt+tab to see if the window is there like you can with the other designers but it isn't and does not appear in Task Manager.

Visual Studio behaves as if a designer is open in that you can no longer click into it, as per a Modal Dialog, so the only way out is to kill it via Task Manager.

If rather than choose WebGrid Designer in the right-click menu, I choose Advanced or Customize Element Styles instead, it actually crashes VS 2015 and looking at the event log I get the following .NET Runtime error, pics attached.

was there any error messages that popped up after you clicked the WebGrid Designer? If there wasn't any, would you please try to check if the Designer did show up but maybe it isn't displayed on the top of the screen? If there is an error message, would you send it to us? Thank you.

Hi Team

I have installed WebUI Studio 2016 R1 alongside Visual Studio 2015 (Update 1) on Windows 7, but on trying to view the WebGrid Designer in VS2015 nothing happens and Visual Studio just locks up.

I can view other Designers such as the WebCombo, WebDesktop, WebInput etc without issue. There are and have never been any other versions of these controls installed on this PC and I have tried a full uninstall and re-install but same issue. This occurs when creating both a new Intersoft Application or trying the WebGrid samples, and I have also tried including the WebGrid Editor dlls in the references.

The grid control seems to work fine in runtime, just the designer seems to be the issue.

The Webgrid version is 10.0.7200.17
