Hello,

If there is no data, you could not show the child table. Only parent columns are showed in header. Child is not showed because it depends on parent row. If there is no parent row, then the child would not show the child. So, your scenario is not possible.

If you want to populate some dummy data, you can find our sample at WebGridTutorial>>V5.0\Hierarchical_Unbound.aspx.

Hello Handy,

I know data is not getting saved.

Without the data only the primary table column headers only will get displayed.

Since there is no any record for the primary table the child tables column headers will not be able to see.Since there won't be a plus sign.

Our requirement is to allow the Column headers in parent table and child tables and save the structure but the grid will render it with data.This structure is saved in db.Then this structure is getting used in places where grid will render with data.

Is there anyway we can achieve this?

Tell me also whether We can populate some dummy data and render the rows of parent and child tables.

Please advice.

Hello Madhavan,

If I am not mistaken, when you save a table structure of WebGrid, the data is not being saved.
It will save the structure include the data member.
However, when you load the structure, this structure must be loaded with similiar structure.

Example,

I saved two layout. One is for Customer layout and the others for Category.
I could not load Customer layout for my Category sample. The structure definetely would be different.

Hi Team,

Our Scenario is we need to save a layout for Hierarchical Grid without Data.

I am using a Grid which is binded to a dataset with relations between multiple tables.

Now I want to Show the Webgrid with Hierachical Structure but without data,So that the user can change the columns in each level of Hierarchical grid and save the layout.

I am using webgrid.RetrieveHierarchicalStructure() in the prepare databinding method.

Because without the data the plus sign is not coming.

Please tell me how to achieve this scenario.It is very critical for us.

Please update me at the earliest.

Example Scenario:

Customers
Orders
Orders Details

All these tables are without having the data.
