&lt;p&gt;you can replicate the issue very easly ,  once you include the above mentioned DOCTYPE in your code, i think the problem will appear. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In my case i try to ajax ModalPopupExtender in my page which having webgrid. For the working of Ajax ModalPopupExtender we should have to include above mentioned DOCTYPE . But if i include that DOCTYOE problem occurs in webgrid.&lt;/p&gt;
