You can hide it through designer

open WebGridDesigner. Go to "Advanced Tab". In it expand "Root Table" and select the column that you want to hide. After it select all properties and in it set its visibility to "False". I hope you have get it now.

Do you mind elaborating the scenario you are trying to achieve? The default WebGrid filter functionality is used to filter a row, I do not see how it could be used to hide a column.

In order to hide or show WebGrid column programatically, you will need to use server side event handler. I have attached a simple sample of such scenario. In the sample clicking a button will load a predefined set of column in the WebGrid. You could modify it to fit your filter scenario.

The sample is using northwind.mdb data which already available in WebGrid sample.
