Thanks Yudi, hope you'll have something for me soon. I am indeed targeting xhtml 1.0 transitional doctype and not excited about possibly having to design for quirks mode.

I've also found that the tutorials on WebDesktop recommend to remove doctype declaration and xmlns attribute from <html> tag.

Do you have a public database of current issues for your products?

In the previoius version of WebDesktop, the xhtml transitional doctype is not supported yet by the old WebDesktop products. Enhancement have been made since then so that the current WebDesktop products compatible with the xthml transitional doctype.

However, per your report, there is a layout issue on WebPaneManager and WebNavPane product when used under xhtml transitional doctype.

I have forwarded your valuable feedback regarding WebDesktop compatibility issue against xhtml transitional doctype to WebDesktop development team. This issue is filed under work item #829.

I’ll keep you updated with any news I heard from the team regarding work item #829.

Thanks for your answers. Now I have another question. I tried to build a prototype of my application using WebPaneManager & WebNavPane, mostly with default settings, but I couldn't get it to display with fixed size in pixels. After some digging I've found in these forums a recommendation to use the doctype

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" >

It almost fixed the rendering issue except for border around WebNavPane showing in IE but not in FF.
However my concern is that this doctype is not a standard and well-formed one and it should be triggering quirks mode in browsers.
Are you depending on quirks mode for correct rendering of WebDesktop controls?

I’m sure that WebGrid works well if placed into a user control. Should you find any issues or difficulties regarding WebGrid usage in user control, please let us know. We’ll be glad to provide you with solutions or workaround if possible.

We do have a control that has functionality similar to UpdatePanel. It is called WebFlyPostBackManager. You can check one of the samples in our live sample site at the following link, “http://live.intersoftpt.com/cs/WebDesktop/WebFlyPostBackManagerAJAXoverIntersoftControl.aspx?noframe=1&path=/WebDesktop/Top Features/Easy AJAX Integrator”.

It is preferable to use WebFlyPostBackManager, because I think it should be tightly coupled with other Intersoft’s product.
This error message is quite odd and we have not received such reports so far.

We are willing to advice you further but in order to do so we would need you to elaborate on your specific scenario and possibly give us a step-by-step guide or a running simple sample that replicates the issue that we can use to observe the problematic behavior.
Sorting, paging, or grouping is handled by WebGrid using FlyPostBack callback. Could you please let us know in detail what do you mean by the term “doesn’t trigger usual page event”?

Hello,

I'm evaluating your asp.net suite for our product. I'm especially interested in WebGrid with its rich features. The learning curve seems quite steep though so I'd appreciate if I could get a few answers here.

1. My application is basically two panels in a splitter, navigation panel and details panel. Based on what is selected in the navigation panel, details panel would load different ASCX controls into an UpdatePanel. Does your grid work well if placed into a user control? Do you have any controls similar to UpdatePanel in functionality, if yes, is it preferable to use them instead?

2. I tried putting your grid into existing application, on the first page load in IE it rendered displaced. After an AJAX postback and UpdatePanel refresh it was placed correctly. Is there a preferable way to define a parent container for the grid so that is doesn't overrun its parent?

3. I noticed that sorting/paging/grouping doesn't trigger usual page events, do you bypass normal page life cycle for these operations. If so, is it safe to use the grid inside an UpdatePanel?

I might have more questions as I'm trying to build a working sample. Thanks for your support in advance. I only have a few days to make a decision about buying your controls suite.
